A tree related to the Camphor Tree, grows 20-30 meters tall with glossy, waxy appearance leaves with a camphor odor when crushed. Produces bright green leaves in the Spring with small white flower bundles and black colored berry-like (approximately 1 cm) fruit clusters. The pale bark is very rough and vertically fissured.
COMMON USES: Also referred to as Shiu Oil or “White Camphor”. Commonly broken for its aromatic constituents. Used as a replacement for Rosewood Essential Oil because of its similar chemical properties and applications. Previously used for sword and knife handles because it would not scratch the fine blades. Popular in shampoos and hair treatments as well as in toiletries such as lotions and deodorants.
